Excimer laser is a concentrated beam of UVB light that is delivered through the hand piece, applied directly to the skin to avoid any healthy tissue and only exposing the damaged tissue.
The excimer laser is used to treat patients that are suffering from psoriasis and vitiligo.
Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that causes the skin to reproduce faster than normal skin, which causes white, flaky, scaly patches throughout the skin.
The excimer laser helps to calm the inflammation of the psoriasis to help reduce the plaques.
We also use the excimer laser to treat patients that are suffering with vitiligo. Vitiligo is when your immune system attacks your pigmentation or your melanocyte cells and destroys the pigmentation, and causes the white spots.
The excimer laser calms the inflammation of the vitiligo and tells the body that there’s nothing wrong, to allow the body to re-pigment.
The excimer laser takes about 5 to 10 minutes, approximately 2 to 3 times a week for a few months. There’s no pain involved in the treatment. Our ultimate goal with this is to make the patient happy with their skin.
